4WD Tips For K'gari (Fraser Island)
- Engage 4WD before driving on sand
- Lower tyre pressure for beach driving – even lowering to 30psi will assist significantly. Avoid driving at high speed and drive slowly over tree roots when tyre pressures are low.
- The beach is a road and you must obey all road rules. Beach speed is limited to 80km/h with slower zones as signed. Inland tracks are limited to 30km/h.
- Carry basic recovery equipment – minimum a shovel and a snatch strap.
- Make your trip easy – drive close to the low tide and avoid the high tides. See the tide times here.
